Nice sketch - but the style reminds me a little too much of http://www.salon.com/comics/oflaherty/2008/03/04/oflaherty/
which ran on "Salon" for a spell and seems to have mercifully have been dropped. Re the novel you are plotting: be sure to read this month's article by Lawrence Sheets in the "Atlantic" for material.
Hmmm...I would have thought 'pensionero' but what do I know?
Anyway, I didn't care for the oflaherty strip either - I was much more under the influence of Darwyn Cooke at the time I was doodling that up.
